tumblr is a great place to be exposed to different identities and social justice, but a terrible place to actually educate yourself because this environment treats every mistake anyone makes as a permanent, irredeemable character flaw. people here use activism as the main justification for cyberbullying. no one wants to learn or take issues seriously because this user base salivates over any opportunity to punish or condemn other users.
if you genuinely want to advocate for marginalized communities, tumblr is a great starting point, but please do not rely on tumblr to shape your activism. go and do your own research. talk to your family and friends and people who are willing to share their experiences. lastly, and especially if you’re a minor, please stay safe and be careful about sharing your opinion on here! harassment is a very real problem.
growth is slow, but you’ll get there! don’t let tumblr’s acidic social climate stop you from wanting to learn and better yourself. most importantly, it’s ok to slip up sometimes. mistakes don’t make you a bad person, no matter what tumblr says. as long as your intentions are good, you’re doing fine. feminism and social justice involves a lifelong, continuous reshaping of ideology and you can’t expect it to happen overnight.
