sans: *takes a deep breath*

sans: i lo-

anyone who has spent five seconds around sans ever: yes, you love papyrus, we know, you love papyrus so much, he’s the coolest brother ever, he’s the light of your life, you just love papyrus, we KNOW , you love papyrus you fucking love papyrus ok we know, we get it, YOU LOVE papyrus. WE GET IT.

reasons why papyrus is way more than just ‘comic relief’ (spoilers)

protectpapyrus:

  • hes incredibly brave. in the no mercy run if you spare him he says he was scared, and yet he confronted you anyway. getting you to be a better person is more important than possibly getting killed
  • hes actually really tough. undyne says hes strong enough to get into the royal guard, but she cant let him in bc hes too nice. and his attacks are already pretty tough when you fight him, and hes not even trying to kill you. imagine how hard his fight would be if he went all out
  • hes not dumb. he chooses to be nice, he chooses to be a good person. like i mentioned, he knows youre capable of killing him in the no mercy run, and hes scared. but again, he cares more about getting you to be a good person
  • hes enthusiastic about everything he does. if he cares about it, no matter what it is, he puts everything he has into it. making spaghetti, puzzles, friendship, getting into the royal guard. he tries his hardest at all of it
  • he cares about sans. he shows it in different ways than sans does, but he really does. he pushed him to get the sentry job and calls him out on slacking off (which in sans’s defense has more to do with depression than actual laziness but thats a whole other topic). even when youre fighting him he gets distracted thinking about a pun sans told
  • this is probably the most obvious one, but hes a really good person. he refuses to kill you no matter what. hes the only enemy that will never kill you. even toriel, its possible for her to kill you accidentally, but not papyrus. in any pacifist/neutral run he takes you down to 1 hp, then puts you in his shed to wait for undyne. then he gets worried about you when you escape. like undyne says, he was supposed to capture you, but he ends up befriending you. then of course in the no mercy run, he spares you right off the bat, refusing to fight entirely. if you spare him, he tells you how proud of you he is. if you kill him, he tells you he still believes in you, and that you can become a better person. even as you kill him he believes in you. hes such a good person and the game really really does not want you killing him. it is impossible to kill him by accident in any run, and if you do kill him the game will punish you for it. itll guilt you to hell and back through his lines, through sans’s lines at the end – when hes judging you and during the phone call – through the fact that sans disappears for the rest of the game until your judgement, through little things that arent even noticeable if you dont know what youre looking for. papyrus is the kindest and the best person in the game, and if you kill him there will be punishment
  • i know theres almost certainly more, so feel free to add anything else

ok i’m seeing a lot of people still do this so i want to clear up a misconception:

both frisk and chara are non-binary and use “they” pronouns. neither of them are intended to be avatars of the player and neither of them you’re ultimately intended to project your own gender on

the game wants you to think this – it wants you to assume frisk is the character you named at the beginning of the game, and it wants you to project on frisk and then later on chara when it’s revealed chara is the human you named  – but it’s to mess with you. neither of these are true.

frisk’s entire character is about how they aren’t you – they’re their own independent person, who maintained their own independent personality in spite of their hardships and who ultimately lives on as their own person. that’s why the narration in the mirror says “it’s still you” and “still just you, frisk.” it’s kind of like raiden in mgs2, when him throwing the dog togs with your name on them away at the game’s ending was meant to show how he wasn’t under your control anymore

chara’s character is the same way. without getting too deep into the more complicated chara meta, you’re tricked into inputting the name you usually do in rpgs – which is probably your own name – because the entire game is about the relationship between the player and the characters you control in rpgs. chara’s behavior, for good or ill, is reflective of your actions – that is why, in no mercy, they refer to “your guidance” as being what drives them.

but chara is not you either, in any route. in no mercy, they become more powerful than you, and if you give them your soul they take control of the timeline – if they’re you, that makes no sense. in the pacifist route, they are clearly and consistently shown to be their own character with their own history and personality that’s not your own, just like frisk. and, just like frisk, characters such as asriel and the monsters refer to chara consistently with they pronouns.

in short: stop misgendering frisk and chara. it’s really not hard to refer to them with the correct pronouns, the same way as the game does, and if you’ve beaten the game i really don’t think you have an excuse to keep doing this

What? No Toby Fox himself said that the character is basically supposed to be you and you project yourself on the character? Freaking Frisk is AMBIGOUS for the PLAYER to decide. Frisk is in no way shape or form non-binary in canon, they are whoever the player wants to be! Stop gatekeeping Frisk, if this is your interpretation, GREAT! But do NOT say that people can’t use he/she pronouns because NO WHERE IS IT STATED IN CANON THAT FRISK IS NON BINARY! GIVE ME CANON EVIDENCE THAT OUT RIGHT SAYS FRISK IS NON BINARY AND CAN ONLY USE THEY/THEM PRONOUNS!

Toby fox says to use your own name for the name of the fallen child.

Do not gate keep.

Do NOT become another SU fandom.

@takashi0

“Stop misgendering Frisk and Chara”

That is impossible because THEY HAVE NO CANON GENDER.

THEY CAN BE LITERALLY WHATEVER YOU WANT.

STOP BEING GATEKEEPING ASSHOLES.

>2000 notes and everyone is agreeing with this tripe

C’mon, kids, don’t do this.  You wanna interpret Frisk/Chara as non-binary, that’s cool, knock yourself out, but don’t do this “MY HEADCANON IS TRUE AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG” shit.

Be better than that.
