Headcanon that in their pre-Garnet days, it was really hard for these teeny gems on homeworld, they REALLY don’t get along with other gems. Ruby’s too much of an aggressive hot-head and Sapphire is too self-reliant and withdrawn.
They have amazing core strengths, so that may have made them stand out to the higher-ups. They probably got paired up together, being they’re “unbalanced”, weaker gems (seriously, it’s striking to me that they’re the only two gems so far that don’t have their gems fixed in a central position on their body), much to the other’s displeasure.
I du n n o I just have this feeling ever since Garnet’s advice to Jamie that they probably didn’t have a “love at first sight” meeting.
Pearl rocking a tiny bundle in her arms. Her face looked drained, “Thank goodness.” She breathed a sigh of relief to see her friends, “It seems as though we might have a problem.”
“On it!” Ruby went to the warp pad, ready for another mission. The red gem was thankful for the distraction.
Sapphire looked to Pearl, “I don’t think that’s what she means.”
The tall gem was cooing at Rose’s son, giving her all into making the bundle of joy once again joyful.
Sapphire walked up to Pearl, “May I?” She asked.
Pearl handed over the heavy responsibility, feeling a sense of relief almost instantly.
The blue gem hummed a sweet tune as she brought the child close to her.
I doodled a couple of Comic for my theory on Sapphire’s eyes, That being that the reason she covers them is because 1) she has an unnatural third eye because of her future vision and thus is seen as a defect. and 2) Every time she looks into another persons eyes, she sees their futures and typically it’s the bad futures, so she covers them to avoid that.
This caused a bit of distrust between her and Ruby when they were first getting to know each other since Ruby thought that Sapphire’s hesitance to get close to her was because she was afraid of Ruby.Though love prevailed and when Sapphire had shown her supposed ‘defect’ Ruby still loved and cared for her just because she was ‘Sapphire’. Ruby was the first person that Sapphire ever saw a bright future with.

So like, I’ve noticed that whenever the Crystal Gems warp in without Steven, they’re usually striking a pose. But when they’re with him, they warp pretty normally. Do they strike a pose so that they can look ‘cool’ in front of Steven?
Okay so, Ya’know how whenever the gems unfuse, they always just basically fall and stuff right? Well I picture Ruby and Sapphire absolutely sucking at landing since they don’t unfuse often 😀 So just picture these babies flailing in the air and falling in awkward positions
