A fully articulated Spinosaurus display. Spinosaurus was an enormous dinosaur that lived in what is now North Africa some 112 to 93 million years ago, and is believed by many to be the largest and longest of all theropod species. The function and structure of their titular “spines” is widely debated; some believe that they were connected by a thin web of skin, perhaps as a threat display or for thermoregulation, while others suggest they might have been hidden under a large hump of flesh and fat.
