I’m absolutely sick of people drawing Steven and Frisk with “Down With Cis” shirts. These two are the last people to wear those shirts.
“Down With Cis” isn’t funny or cute or whatever. As a trans person, it disgusts me. It doesn’t matter that it started out as a joke. People are taking it seriously. Cis people aren’t any sort of enemy. Transphobes are.
Hey everyone, this etsy store is selling shirt prints of artwork that does not belong to them, including my own. Their name is Tees Atlanta.
I contacted them and they stated that all artwork was submitted to them by the original artists and that reverse image search revealed no other sources, which I – being the original artist of one of their pieces – know to be complete bogus. Either they were short sighted enough to accept submissions by people other than the original artists OR they found these pictures online and decided to put them up for sale without permission from the artists. Either way… this is essentially art theft and seeing as they already sold several of these shirts including one with my own art work… it should stop.
I planned on asking them to take my own work down, but seeing as I don’t know the other artists they may have stolen from the idea of leaving it at that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth… so I come to you. Please signal boost this post, have a look at their store and let me know if you recognise any of the artists whose work was potentially stolen. If you do, you can tell me about it and/or contact them.
I’d like to report their store, but I’ve also never done this kind of thing before so I’m very nervous about taking legal action… I’d feel more secure about this if I had further proof that the other artists involved also did not consent to their artwork being used, or if I knew several people would be filing reports at the same time. If you’ve had this happen to you or have any advice for me, please let me know.
You don’t have to be productive to deserve happiness.
You don’t have to justify the space you take up in the world, the food you eat, the things you need physically or emotionally to keep moving forward another day. You deserve these things just because you are a living, breathing human being.
This is very VERY shady, and it will most likely give you viruses. Don’t let the large amount of notes fool you
The repeated reblogs from the same users (who don’t even have an icon or a properly built blog page) is very suspicious, so be safe my friends! Reblog so everyone knows not to click the link!!
To be honest, A LOT of people do not seem to understand this post, so Im going to make it very clear whats the problem:
Doing fanart is fine, selling it is ALWAYS illegal. Yes, we are all guilty of this, me including with selling MLP Fanart as an example at Conventions like Gala Con. The big difference is that MLP is a big show of a well payed studio that is selling TONS of merchandise on their own and make a huge amount of profit out of it, regardless if you sell some art based on their show on your own. Fanartists are not a threat to their company since the amount of money you make from their show isnt a huge loss for them and so you are likely to not get into trouble for selling it. They DO have the rights tho to take you down ANYTIME should you ever be a thorn in their side.
NOW, whats the problem with selling fanart based off indie games like undertale or webcomics like avas demon for example ?
OK so, lets say I published my dragon-book and opened up a small shop with official merchandise for it. I am a freelancer Artist and thus every single penny I make out of my work is important for my survival. Now, imagine that someone out there loved my work so much that they NATURALLY, decided to make fanart for it. Thats all fine. But then they thought it would be a great idea for some reason to make profit out of MY idea and sell it online. Fanart of steven universe or gravity falls? No problem. Do you think disney or cartoon network REALLY care about that ONE poster you sold online? But now you are selling fanart of MY work, of MY project, the project of a SINGLE ARTIST and not a huge company. Every single penny you earn out of it is a huge loss on profit for me.
THATSwhy you should not sell fanart based of indie games or other projects of indie artists. They NEED the money YOU make from THEIR work. Feel free to make fanart as much as you want, it is a great way of promoting the original product, whether its a book, comic or game.
But PLEASE, have some respect for indie artists who put YEARS of work into realizing their ideas, and support the OFFICIAL merchandise THEY created INSTEAD of making your own.
Most people understand that I’m not selling Sans, but this is just a reminder for why he isn’t for sale.
