Things you shouldn’t cringe at: A thirteen-year-old posting their first fanart or fanfic in a fandom when they’re new to art or writing.
Things you should totally cringe at: Fully grown adults acting like five year olds when someone doesn’t ship their OTP.

I have no concept of the pain scale, like…I just realized that last week I said I was in especially awful hip pain and when my pt asked to rate it I said “3”. And then this week I said I felt a lot better than last week and when she asked me to rate it I said “3”. I really don’t know what the numbers are supposed to be. I know it’s supposed to be out of ten but like. I think I rate the pain by what time of the day it is. Like “i will rate the pain I’m in at a 5 at the end of the day, so compared to what my pain level will be later, what I’m feeling right now is a 3.” I also think i rate in overall pain rather than specific pain? Like, systemically I’m at a five. Some parts will be worse or better but i just rate it all at five because that’s the average

Here’s a pain scale that actually makes sense.

MUCH better than those stupid smile faces.

This is amazingly helpful.

Please show this to children. I could have used this when I was in the hospital with mastoiditis.

Like your asking a child to tell you what level of pain they are in?? All I know if I want to scream and go to sleep

Open letter to the ovw and Tf2 Fandom

irlmisha:

These days had been really impressing for both fandoms. The Overwatch fandom got a really nice announcement: an actual character being canonically lesbian, and most important, the character who was the principal mascot, Tracer. When I heard about the news, I couldn’t believe it. How Blizzard decided to do such a greta thing? LGBT representation, wow! I got extremely happy for see the incredible acceptance from the people here having a gay character in there. We also know that not all the people shared the news as something good, but that’s another point. In other hand, many guys from the Tf2 started to think about: “Are we gonna have an update?” “Where is the new comic?” “Why Valve is like this” etc, and a huge discourse started between people being rude, telling to a lot of my mutuals that “Tf2 was over, and get over it” And the drama started. Here is my point of view.

The reposting of art is a big problem in many fandoms, but that doesn’t mean we should be complacent in ours! Here is a guide on what reposting is, why it’s bad, and how to help stop it!

What is reposting?

Reposting is when someone takes a creation, usually a piece of art, and posts it to their own blog/profile without the original creator’s knowledge, permission, or accreditation! The most common kind in the Hetalia fandom is the reposting of art from sites like Pixiv, but there are other kinds, such as reposting people’s cosplay photos or re-uploading their MMDs/animations!

Why is reposting bad?

A lot of people don’t know that reposting is bad, or don’t realise that it’s not creators being pedantic! It is a form of stealing! Creators have the rights to their creations, and by reposting their creations without their consent, you are violating those rights! Reposting a creation you commissioned is bad as well, since you have only bought the creation, not the rights to it!

Is it okay if I source the creation/say it’s not mine?

No! You are still using the work without consent, and therefore still violating those rights! While it’s good you’re not claiming it as your own, that’s no excuse!

What if I found the picture through Google/it’s been reposted before?

That’s not okay either! Google takes pictures from everywhere–just because it’s there, it doesn’t mean the creator has given permission for it to be reposted! As well, if you found the picture reposted on another site, it isn’t okay for you to repost it again! Two wrongs don’t make a right! Try to find the original source through Google’s reverse image search or sites like saucenao!

What about editing creations?

There are other forms of reposting that aren’t straightforward re-uploading, like editing, but they still infringe on creators’ rights!

  • Editing artwork without permission: editing art is still unfair usage of the work, and an infringement on the artist’s rights, unless they have given permission! Fortunately, Himaruya allows the editing of his own artwork, and there’s plenty of it on his blog (new blog/English version)! You can also use artwork from the anime! Just be sure to get this artwork straight from the source and remember not to Google it, since many artists can perfectly imitate Himaruya’s style or that of the anime, and you don’t want to end up using their art by accident! This goes for icon makers too–never use non-official art for icons!
  • Editing photography without credit: a lot of people are more lenient with photography, but the photographer still has the rights to it like an artist with their art! Make sure to at least source and credit any photography you use to its author, and especially avoid using photography with people’s faces in them, photographs that are personal to the photographer, and cosplay photography! Try to use photographs from sites like Wikimedia Commons, where you can edit the photography under fair use, as long as you credit where it came from (this is true for most pictures, check the author’s terms of usage)! This goes for aesthetic makers, too!

What can I do to help?

If you see someone reposting or editing creations without permission, approach them politely via the messaging service or ask system, and explain to them that reposting is wrong–you can even send them a link to this post, if you like! Then, advise them on what to do next (e.g. deleting the reposted art, editing using Himaruya’s art, etc)! Even if they don’t understand or don’t think they’ve done anything wrong, try your best to keep explaining the situation to them! However, if they refuse to co-operate, feel free to tell us who they are! We’ll either contact them ourselves or, as a last resort, make a public post warning people not to reblog from them!

If you need a template to work from, here’s one a creator provided us with that they always use:

Hi! So I noticed you post some Hetalia fanart and various pictures that you have not drawn. You also do not have the original artists’ permission to post them on tumblr. This is considered reposting, and it’s not a good thing. Saying ‘Google’ or things like that are the source is also not a good thing. If you didn’t draw it, don’t upload it! It’s a common courtesy in all fandoms. Even if you really like the art, if the artist has not let you post it elsewhere – even if you found the picture through Google or similar – it isn’t nice because the artists have no idea where their work has ended up. If you could delete all of the unsourced art please, that would be really appreciated! It’s what is fair to the artists. If you really like the art, you can follow the original artists themselves! Some are here on Tumblr, but most of the work you have reposted comes from Pixiv. Consider getting a Pixiv account, then! Thank you 🙂

Either write something similar, or change this so it fits the person you’re messaging!

How to repost with permission!

If you still really want to repost creations, then please do it with the creator’s permission! Here’s a guide on how to do so specifically for Pixiv artists! And here’s a guide also for Pixiv artists, but it has a lot of other resources too! If you’re too scared to ask an artist yourself, however, then try telling other Hetalia bloggers who repost with permission about the art! They might be able to get permission and post it themselves! Preferably, though, get an account on the site the creation was originally posted on, and show your appreciation for it there!

Doesn’t have to apply on Hetalia only. It goes for everyone.

I want anyone who reads this comment to know that your life matters. ALL LIFE MATTERS. Even if you think that no one loves you, I can assure you, someone does. You may not know this person very well, you may have lost contact with this person, you may have fought with this person, but they DO STILL CARE. I CARE. It breaks my heart to think about how many people ponder the thought of committing suicide, and I cry when I think about how many people actually go through with it. I may not know you, but God does. And I can tell you, with ALL OF MY BEING, that God loves you. The creator of the Universe loves you. Even if you’re gay, even if you’re trans, even if you’re depressed. If you don’t believe in God, that’s fine. But know that you are cared for and loved. My father attempted suicide when I was 8, and I still struggle with the thought of, “I might have lost him.” Spend time with your loved ones. Don’t be afraid to ask for reassurance. Talk your feelings out. I’ve been depressed, and I know it’s a cold, lonely, degrading experience. TALK WITH YOUR LOVED ONES. And if you truly feel like you have no one to consult, try to meet new people. You are undoubtedly an interesting person. You are not ugly. You are not boring. You are not a waste of space. You are beautiful. You are intriguing. You are precious. If you feel like you can’t talk to new people, then please, I beg of you. Call a suicide hot-line, find a support group, or find a good church. I cannot stress this enough. Seek help. Suicide is a thought sparked by the feeling of depression. Depression is usually sparked by a traumatic event or a feeling of solitude/unimportance. These feelings are rooted in loneliness, and even abandonment. YOU NEED AN OUTSIDE SOURCE TO HELP YOU THROUGH IT. Never feel like you are troubling someone by talking to them about these feelings. You are worth every second of their time. You are a beautiful creation, and there is only one of you. There will only ever be, ONE, YOU. People do love you, even if it doesn’t feel like it. And things will get better, even if you don’t see how. Please, I beg of you. Think about this.
Love you.

!!ELECTION DAY REMINDERS!!

sydnymarie:

Election day is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8th

  • You can check your polling place AND time HERE.
  • I would HIGHLY recommend bringing two forms of ID [a gov. i.e. your license or photo ID AND your voter ID] with you to poll. Some states have voter ID laws, and in other states you need your ID if it’s your first time voting  at that particular location.
  • Avoid any trouble, don’t wear any pins, tshirts, etc. for a particular candidates. Some areas consider it passive electioneering.
  • You CAN NOT vote via text, online, etc. Anyone advertising otherwise is lying.
  • The only person to ask you for your ID should be the individual working the polls sitting at a table inside the building in question. If anyone else asks you for your ID or gives you a hard time, they have no authority to do so and should be avoided.
  • You CAN NOT take a photo of your ballot/voting machine/etc. Take a cute photo with your “I Voted” sticker after and call it a day.
Most importantly, stay safe, be smart and VOTE VOTE VOTE
