These are some boards I did from the episode “On the Run.” Sometimes when we have specific timing in mind, we time out the boards ourselves and give them to our wonderful animatic editor Lauren Hecht to use as reference. She always has great ideas for ways to improve the flow of our scenes.

In “Watermelon Steven” Lamar Abrams had introduced the new secondary powers of the gems like Amethyst’s spin dash and Pearl’s projectile beams, and i was excited to use them in as dynamic a way as possible. Introducing new gem powers and abilities is always a blast and I had fun coming up with Amethyst’s new ‘flame whip.’

This was a shot that i animated myself with advice from Jeff, it was a lot of fun to do. Since day one of working on this show I knew that a conflict like this between Amethyst and Pearl was inevitable and I secretly hoped that Jeff and I would get a chance to tell that story. Special thanks to Nick DeMayo, our animation director, and to the fantastic animation team at Sun Min in Korea for bringing this episode to life!

Loneliness

I realised that most of the stories I’ve written have always dealt with the concept of being alone; never as a bad thing, though the worst it can be is melancholic, but as a trait that somehow belongs to the main characters which they have accepted as part of their being. I could then easily how it echoed the experience of most of my entire life, being a very lonely child who kept to herself. I’m still the same person essentially, I still have mental conversations with myself (I think I’m a very funny conversationalist; too bad my social anxiety prevents most people other than my friends from enjoying it), but I’ve accepted this constant trait of being alone and managed to turn it into something that opens doors for me to experience the world in ways I wouldn’t have noticed (try being in a field looking at the clouds passing by! That’s my positive association with being alone).

Being in an age where everyone is connected everywhere and talking to everyone every time (Facebook, anyone?), it can make us more afraid of being alone than we already naturally are. We all have a need to belong to each other. At the same time though we need to learn how to belong to ourselves, and personally I find that it’s a very important especially with so many things going on we could very easily lose ourselves. Having a rich inner life is just as important as having a rich outer life, and they both inform each other.

*I may have jumbled up loneliness and being alone as being the same thing. Yeah I know!! It’s just how I experienced it; sometimes I really hate how I’m unable to easily make friends, which often makes me feel negatively isolated especially in a new environment (I was ALONE in college for a year until I found my clique). It’s terrible. But still things worked out in the end. Until it does though, make a friend out of yourself in the meantime.

Sorry if this has already been asked but is there any official ships for your appliances? Or is that remaining a secret too…?

mysticbaconslice:

That’s remaining kinda secretish. I don’t care who you guys ship or not, I love all the pairings available between my three nerds so yeah. No harm done.

Though Terry did/does have a crush on Melody, especially back when he was alive and working, always catching a glimpse at her and sneaking in during breaks to listen to her sing in the music room with the piano as she tried writing new songs to perform for the families.

Terry was also close friends with the clumsy mechanic Finnick who just started assembling new animatronics within the restaurant. Finnick grew particularly fond of Terry very fast. Romantic or platonic, who knows.

Melody always managed to talk to Finnick and walk home with him after the restaurant closed after hours too, laughing and telling jokes to get him more comfortable in his own skin. She always liked his dorky accent and would often tease him.

They all knew each other back then, but when they died they all forgot who they were and each other, only that they had new roles to play within the haunted restaurant. They had no memory of what may had happened with them before or the relationships they possibly had. All they know is that they would be stuck together with only each other’s company for a very long, painfully lonely time. They basically had to completely wipe off a clean slate and acted like strangers to each other again.

Do the others usually use tab’s ticklishness to their advantage?

mysticbaconslice:

As in to see his dorky and ultra rare smile yeah. First time he actually laughed they had to take a moment to process what the hell happened and how that it seemed impossible for that grumpy guy to even squeak a chuckle. When Terry laughs it literally gets out of control, even more out of control with Finnick and he gets super pissed and flustered like, “Shut up. I’m proper. I’m cool. You’re the idiots. I’m not. Get away.”
