badassunicorn2016:

A list of body language phrases.

I’ve included a very comprehensive list, organized by the type of body movement, hand and arm movements, facial expressions etc. In some cases, a phrase fits more than one heading, so it may appear twice. Possible emotions are given after each BL phrase unless the emotion is indicated within the phrase. (They are underlined for emphasis, not due to a hyperlink.)

Note: I’ve included a few body postures and body conditions as they are non-verbal testimony to the character’s physical condition.

Have fun and generate your own ideas.:-)

Native American Hand Talkers Fight to Keep Sign Language Alive

snowgall:

Research has shown that Hand Talk is still being used by a small number of deaf and hearing descendants of the Plains Indian cultures.

“Hand Talk is endangered and dying quickly,” said Melanie McKay-Cody, who identifies herself as Cherokee Deaf and is an expert in anthropological linguistics.

McKay-Cody is the first deaf researcher to specialize in North American Hand Talk and today works with tribes to help them preserve their signed languages. She is pushing for PISL to be incorporated into mainstream education of the deaf.

((Quick note: This isn’t what American Sign Language or (ASL) refers to. We got most of our official signs and influences from the French.

Also fun fact: Every nation has their own form of sign language. It isn’t the same everywhere you go.))

No matter your age.
No matter your weight.
No matter your race.
No matter your gender.
No matter your skills.
Cosplay is about everyone coming together & having fun.

This a 1000 times over

All so very true, otherwise we wouldn’t have cosplayers or any community that’s worth being a member of. Cosplay is about expressing your love for a show/character/Story. Some may be better done but it doesn’t mean the others are nothing, they all mean something.

((There is a huge double standard when it comes to this. I was once told I was “too white” to cosplay a character. It was my first cosplay and it ruined the entire experience for me. The character was Jade Harley from Homestuck, and here’s the thing…

SHE HAS NO CANON RACE! Her skin isn’t colored like all of the other humans in the comic, which leaves their skin pure #ffffff))

Dear white people…

I literally just had this conversation on FB with a new black.

^^

To people that think being “racist against whites” is a thing….

I completely disagree with this. You can’t tell me black people can’t be racist when we’re actually extremely racist. By saying that black people can’t be racist, it’s implied that under no circumstances, anything that I do isn’t racist. If I was to call a middle eastern man a terrorist and pull off his turban, if he’s wearing one, claiming that there’s a bomb under it simply because he’s middle eastern, I’m not racist because I’m black. If I ask an Asian acquaintance of mine to help me on some math because he’s Asian (remember guys, Asians are great at math), I’m not racist cuz I’m black. If I hide all my valuable shit because some Hispanics came around(Hispanics are stereotypically thieves) or even ride up on a group of Hispanics and ask them how much it would be to fix my roof, I’m not racist cuz I’m black. Nigga please, black people are racist as fuck.

I actually agree with the comment just above mine. Black people can be racist. Any race can be racist to other races, even their own. I’ve heart light skin black people insult black people that are darker than them, and even heard a black guy calling an Indian boy a Paki,  which is an extremely racist term. A lot of black people are racist towards the white race also. Racism is back and forth. Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race. Any race can have that. Black people get a lot of stick just living in this world… I get that… I’ve been through it. but just look how many people back away from muslims/ someone who wears a turban and gets pulled over at the airport after 9/11.

Dear POC…

((Nope, any human can be racist, period.

Also, yeah I’m whiter than a milk bottle in a snowstorm, but let me tell you something, I was called “cracker” at such a young age, I thought they were talking about the crackers we would eat at snack time! My substitute history teacher made all of the white kids apologize to all the other kids for our race, as if we had ever whipped anyone in our twelve years of life! I grew up contemplating suicide because I was told my skin, my ancestry, the things I can’t even change made me permanently evil!

No child should have to endure that level of self hatred and self shame, no matter their race! Now, with toxic ideas like white privilege, more white children are suffering as I have than ever before. I had a kid aged 5 come to me crying and saying they didn’t want to be white anymore. Why should any child have to feel that?! Why?! How is that justified?! It isn’t!

I deserve to live just as much as all of you, even if I’m white. I shouldn’t have to apologise for a crime I never even committed. You can cry racism all you want, but you’re the one berating and labelling me based on my race at the end of it all!

Also, saying POC can’t be racist is racist. It’s saying they aren’t capable of doing something wrong, it is denying they have a quality of humanity that makes them equal to you and me! Let POC take responsibility for their own actions like anyone else, don’t excuse their actions based on their race or the history of their race. In the end they have choice and free will. Don’t treat them like helpless victims of the world, and justify their every move. It’s the worst kind of bigotry one can display in my opinion.))

Therapists aren’t people who you “pay to pretend to care about you”, therapists are people you pay to teach you how to care for yourself

Me: I am violently depressed.

Therapist: Oh! Sounds like you need to do YOGA! That will help!

Me: *signs up for yoga*

Me: *is violently depressed in Downward Dog*

Me: I hate myself and only see my flaws

Therapist: ok lets refocus on things you like about yourself. This week i want you to try and journal about good things you’ve for yourself and others.

Me: *does the homework* yeah but i still hate myself but feel bad cause i shouldn’t

Therapist: feeling like you shouldn’t hate yourself is a step in the right direction. Mental health is complex and isn’t something that will ~magically~ improve. We have a lot of hard work head of us but I’ll be here to help you.

TL;DR stop perpetuating the idea that therapy is unhelpful because the results are not instantaneous.

FUCKING THIS.

As a psychologist the amount of bullshit on this site, the amount of fucking dangerous bullshit on this site about how therapy is neurotypical bullshit and isn’t worth it and how exercise is pointless and good diet is pointless and that therapy homework is pointless DRIVES ME UP THE FUCKING WALL

Exercise is fucking important.
good diet is fucking important
therapy is fucking important.
WHY???

because pills alone don’t help. they improve the hormonal imbalance (as does exercise and good diet which ALSO are a form of very real self care as your physical being is sorta connected to your mental one but go fucking figure right?), but guess what? the suicidal thoughts, the thoughts of harm, the thoughts of hating yourself, they’re still there.  suicides actually increase when medicated.  why? because suddenly you have the energy to fulfill thoughts of harming yourself.  which is why you NEED therapy alongside pills.

it has taken you years, or decades to create your maladaptive thought processes and behaviours.  that shit doesn’t disappear overnight. core beliefs don’t change overnight. these are the very fucking core of your personhood, your being and personality. THAT TAKES TIME TO CHANGE

STOP ACTING LIKE THERAPY IS SHIT IF IT DOESNT WORK IN TWO SESSIONS

^This!!!!!

I would like to advise everyone to block and unfollow dapper-dice. I have been getting messages from several people informing me he has been harrassing them and making them feel all around uncomfortable. A lot of these people have asked to be kept anonymous for their own privacy.

He has been doing everything from pressuring people into sending him nude pictures.

To racial slurs.

To rape jokes

To all around pressuring people into doing things that generally make them uncomfortable.

tl;dr : DAPPER-DICE/SALLY-STAGE-PLAY HAS BEEN SEXUALLY HARASSING OTHER ROLEPLAYERS AND THROWING RACIAL SLURS AROUND.

Please spread the word and make it known we don’t tolerate this sort of behavior in our fandom.

sketchinthoughts:

x-everclear:

sketchinthoughts:

– don’t erase the stuff you’ve already drawn, just make the layer invisible. if you’re anything like me then deleting in process sketches has a very light subconscious negative effect on how the drawing is turning out.

– don’t draw your sketches on white, especially if your brush is black. white is hard to draw on. change it to grey. trust me on this.

– if a sketch is almost there but not quite try mirroring it horizontally. the issues will be way easier to spot.

-if inking isnt your thing but you want outlines just paint your color over the sketch lines, then do the ink lines last.

– if you have lots of ideas but no patience with details like myself take to tiny tiny thumbnails. like im talking barely bigger than your thumb. it forces you to look at the whole picture and not just the details.

– if tiny doesnt work/you like detailing go opposite. draw REALLY huge and work your way through.

Can you make a version of this for traditional artists?

Sure! (also if anyone has tips of their own feel free to add)

– switch up your medium! If you usually draw with pencil draw with pen, and vice versa. Forcing yourself to use pens(non-erasable) helps you get a better idea of how you draw since you can’t erase construction shapes. If you’re going from pen to pencil you’ll find pencil more forgiving and therefore more freeing, so win win!

– if you can’t afford color copics but want the texture and have access to a program that lets you use color layers, get grey markers (I went with Faber Castell but I’m not sure if they’re still as widely used) and color your sketch as you would with copics but with the greyscale. Then add the color later in Photoshop/whichever art program you use!

– Try drawing by coloring in solid shapes instead of linework, and vice versa to get a different perspective of your drawing.

– if you have a sketch that you feel isn’t working try the mirror trick. Trace the drawing with tracing paper and then flip it and make the corrections on the backside.

A lot of it is just flipping stuff around and trying to approach things from a different angle (instead of going lineart>color, go color>linear).

Also bonus tip that applies to all types of art: art blocks usually form when you get stuck inside your own head. Remember that if you have access to the internet you have access to an amazing amount of resources there to help you get inspired. I normally use Pinterest if I’m really stuck and just explore/pin things that I really like until I feel like drawing again.
