Daveed Diggs is nominated for his roles as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical Hamilton. He was born and raised in Oakland, California and graduated from Brown University in 2004.
Daveed was involved in experimental theatre early on, including writing and performing in the US tour of the choreopoem Word Becomes Flesh. Before being invited to work on Hamilton, he appeared in many regional theatre productions and some short films. Most notably, he played Hobbes in the 2014 web series, Hobbes and Me.
He also is the vocalist and writer of the experimental hip-hop/rap groupclipping, who released a mixtape called midcity in 2013, and their album, CLPPNG, in 2014. He released his solo album Small Things to a Giant in 2012, and appeared on the soundtrack for the 2016 film Zootopia.
Daveed is currently being acknowledged and praised for performing what has been confirmed the fastest rap in Broadway history (by words per second). He performs the rap in a song titled ‘Guns and Ships’ as Marquis de Lafayette.
